This will explain you simple steps to configure Hortonworks on you Windows 7/8 machine using open source Virtualbox.

So Let’s get started

Step 1 – Download Hortonworks from its official site.

Click here to Download Hortonworks HDP 2.1 – Download .ova file for virtual box

Step 2 – Download open Source Virtualbox

This is a .ova file to open or install this you need a Virtualbox

Click here to Download Virtualbox 4.2

If you get any error while installing Virtualbox let me know.



 

Step 3 – Configure Hortonworks Sandbox

 
Go to File > Import Appliance

Click on Open appliance

Select your image path (Hortonworks .ova file) and Open
 

 
Click on Next
 
 

 
Click on Import
 

 
It will take sometime to install, have a coffee 🙂 or Break
 

 
Once it’s completed you will see .ova OS image loaded in virtualbox for access
simple click on image and start it
 

 
Next you will see list of services are starting, wait for sometime
 

 
Once everything started you will see this screen
 

 
Open browser and access

http://127.0.0.1:8000/

 

 
You can putty to Hortonworks sandbox using

Username - root
Password - Hadoop 

 

Now you are ready to enjoy Hadoop.
